LANDex data confirms important gains in documented land rights in rural Nepal and an increasingly strong legal framework for equal land rights for men and women. Family farmers need increased recognition and financial support if they are going to be central to a sustainable food system. Women feel less secure than men in their land tenure and better data is needed to track progress towards equal land rights. Increased local control over land and the implementation of participatory, sustainable land use plans are needed to achieve a number of land-related goals in Nepal. Land information is robust but must be made more accessible to the public. Strong laws to protect human rights must be extended in practice to those defending their land.
